GMDSS Examination Center GMDSS-GOC

Coordination was initiated with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information to approve the curricula of the International Maritime Organization (IMO model course 1.25) to obtain the GMDSS Certificate, in order to solve a major problem for deck officers who used to travel abroad to obtain this certificate.In 2002, the Academy in coordination with the Ministry of Transport did succeed in having the regulating ministerial decree issued by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information.

As a result, GMDSS-GOC Licenses Examinations are conducting in the AAST&MT using real equipments for applying the requirements of the GMDSS at the Arab and international levels for deck officers and masters in conjunction with and under the supervision of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) according to the ministerial decrees (No.186/2002 & 259/2003) issued by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information in order to meet the international dispositions, regulations and conventions of the ITU, IMO and STCW convention as amended.

According to the Egyptian Telecom regulation law No. 10 for year 2003 and the complementary ministerial decrees No. 259 for year 2003, the International Conventions and agreements, and the regulations and Resolutions of the ITU & IMO the GOC License has been issued in accordance with STCW-95 (Table A-IV) as amended and the holder of this license has passed the examinations for the general operator Certificate “GOC” and approved by the National telecommunications regulatory Authority (NTRA).

As a result, GMDSS-GOC Licenses Examinations are conducting in the AAST&MT using real equipment’s for applying the requirements of the GMDSS at the Arab and international levels for deck officers and masters in conjunction with and under the supervision of the National Telecommunications regulatory Authority (NTRA) according to the ministerial decrees (No. 186/2002 & 259/2003) issued by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information in order to meet the international dispositions, regulations and conventions of the ITU, IMO and STCW convention as amended.

Since 2002 and under the umbrella of League of Arab States big number of GOC licenses, have been issued, for deck officers and masters from different nationalities Egyptian, Syrian, Lebanese, Sudanese, Jordanian, Yemeni, Libyan and Saudi which increased their employment chances at the international level.
