Provide free public access to open spaces and green spaces

In line with its commitment to enhancing public access to green spaces in urban communities, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) hosted the UIPM Pentathlon Junior World Championships 2024. The championship events took place on the Academy's green sports fields at its AbuKir Campus, which were notably open to the general public without restrictions. This initiative provided residents and visitors with the opportunity to access and enjoy extensive green spaces, in addition to following the international sports competitions. This action underscores AASTMT's significant contribution to providing free, accessible open and green spaces for public benefit, thereby enhancing community well-being and urban sustainability.

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport demonstrates its significant contribution to SDG 11, providing free public access to open and green spaces, through its distinguished eco-friendly stadiums. These stadiums are uniquely designed within vibrant natural settings, prioritizing environmental sustainability and the well-being of all users. Critically, these sustainable venues, rich in integrated green spaces and natural surroundings, are regularly open to the general public without restrictions or fees. This provides a valuable opportunity for the community to engage in physical activity, enjoy outdoor environments, and benefit from a healthy atmosphere. By fostering such accessible and eco-conscious spaces, the Academy not only guarantees a safe environment but also inspires a culture of sustainability and respect for nature, directly supporting the creation of more sustainable and inclusive urban communities

Permanent free access to all campus grounds

In a significant commitment to SDG 11, ensuring permanent free access to open and green spaces for urban residents, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) has generously gifted Alexandria Governorate a transformative project to revitalize the city center.

This visionary initiative involves the comprehensive enhancement and creation of public areas, including new green spaces, pedestrian-friendly zones, and accessible open areas within the heart of Alexandria. By developing and transferring this project to the Governorate, AASTMT is directly contributing to the city's public infrastructure, guaranteeing long-term, unrestricted, and free public access to high-quality, sustainable urban spaces. This initiative will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal and environmental quality of the city center but crucially provide lasting recreational and communal areas for all citizens, significantly improving urban livability and promoting a healthier, more accessible urban environment

Community Engagement Program: Free Access to Campus Green Spaces & Facilities under the "Toward a Green and Sustainable Future" Initiative (2024)

As part of its commitment to SDG 11, AASTMT actively provides occasional free access to its campus grounds and facilities for the local community. In 2024, under the initiative 'Toward a Green and Sustainable Future,' the university opened its Abu Kir campus gates to delegations of students and teachers from local schools across Alexandria.

This program allowed non-university members to freely access and utilize the campus’s extensive green spaces, botanical gardens, and the Planetarium. By removing entry barriers, AASTMT ensures that its sustainable infrastructure serves as a shared public asset, fostering environmental awareness and providing a safe, green recreational space for the city's youth."
