Program Description

The Master of Science (MSc.) in Investment (offered in Arabic and English) provides advanced theoretical and empirical knowledge across asset classes, preparing students for roles such as portfolio manager, hedge-fund specialist, investment specialist, trader, fund manager, risk manager, security analyst, broker, or corporate treasurer. The program also serves as a foundation for pursuing a PhD in Investment Management (also offered by the IFI) and enables specialized research in investment management. The IFI’s broader mission is to develop human capacities and scientific skills in finance and investment across the Arab world to meet global economic developments.

  • The MSc is designed to equip students with a broad range of business skills and knowledge applicable across industries and organizations. While learning outcomes vary by institution, the program generally ensures that students understand current theories and techniques across major business disciplines, demonstrate leadership and effective teamwork, recognize ethical dilemmas and the ethical implications of business decisions, and exhibit professional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Graduates of the Master program are well-prepared for successful careers across the financial sector. The program equips students with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in investment management, enabling them to pursue leadership roles in a rapidly evolving economic landscape. IFI graduates are hired by a wide range of organizations, including asset and investment management firms, banks and investment banks, insurance companies, corporate finance departments, securities brokerages, and financial consulting firms. Graduates can pursue job titles such as Investment Analyst, Portfolio Manager, Investment Manager, Investment Consultant, Corporate Investment Executive, Risk Manager, and Financial Analyst. In these roles, they are responsible for analyzing financial data, building financial models, evaluating investment opportunities, developing investment strategies, managing asset allocation, advising clients, and supporting strategic decision-making. Beyond the Master's degree, IFI graduates are well-positioned to pursue professional certifications such as the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation, which is highly valued by employers. The program also serves as a foundational milestone for students wishing to pursue a PhD in Investment Management, opening doors to academic and research careers.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Master's program, applicants must meet the following requirements: First, applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree with a minimum grade of "Good" in Business Administration from a Faculty of Commerce or Business Administration. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in other specializations. Second, applicants holding a Bachelor's degree with a "Pass" grade may be admitted if they have also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from a recognized college with at least a "Good" grade. The diploma must be two years or four semesters in duration or follow the standard practice of the granting institution. Third, all applicants must pass the English language test required for program admission and enrollment, regardless of whether the program is studied in Arabic or English. Fourth, applicants must pass a personal interview with a minimum score of 4 out of 5. The interview alone is not sufficient for admission, as applicants must also meet all other requirements listed above.

Brief

The student studies 10 courses totaling 30 credit hours, with a maximum of 4 courses per semester. The student takes 4 core courses during the first semester. In the second semester, the student selects 4 elective courses from the available offerings. In the third semester, the student takes one elective course and one core course (Report and Dissertation Writing), which prepares the student to begin working on the research thesis during the third and fourth semesters. The student must earn a total of 54 credit hours to graduate..
