Description

Demonstrate understanding of cultural and historical background of the ages of the novels under study. Read selected major English novels from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Explain, narrate, compare/contrast elements of the novel. Relate analytical and critical thinking. Apply logical order in writing critical appreciation of the novels. Categorize different genres. Distinguish types and styles of writing and narration. Examine how the novels under study responded to the social contexts in which they were produced. Justify analysis of different themes and techniques. Criticize according to schools of criticism. Master creative and artistic writing. Modify revising and editing skills. Objectives

  • This course is an introduction to both the world and art of the novel. Elements of the novel (setting, plot, story, characterization, themes, language and style) will receive ample treatment, and so will the cultural and historical background. Through an in-depth study of the novels, students will be acquainted with the various styles and trends within this rich genre.
