    Goal 6. Clean Water and Sanitation

    Awarness

    AASTMT organizes conferences, awareness sessions as well as educates students through graduation projects, graduate and undergraduate courses, training and competitions. Besides, outside the campus, AASTMT provides paid and free courses for water management.

    AASTMT Actively promotes conscious water usage on campus through signs, events, workshops, conference, training programs. Water conservation signs are placed around campus, scientific and awareness session for community on campus and through regular AASTMT leadership meetings. In addition, AASTMT encourages startups and small projects promoting water and agriculture through the AASTMT Entrepreneurship Center.

    The 4th AWCO Scientific Conference organized by the Alexandria Water Company

    Major General/ Mohamed Al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, inaugurated the fourth scientific conference of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, which is organized by the company to review the scientific vision of development in various fields of water as an economic and environmental value through various axes to formulate problems and various water issues. This came in the presence of the professor of universities and research and scientific bodies including the AASTMT

    For the 1st time, SEYP (Sustainability & Entrepreneurship Youth Program) is coming to Alexandria with a quantum leap in the benefits and content offered to the future green entrepreneurs who are interested in sustainability to learn all the essentials about Circular Economy & Waste Management. Through SEYP young people that are interested in making a change get the opportunity to ignite and develop their entrepreneurial skills, to nurture and deepen their sustainability knowledge and to identify key problems and challenges within the focus theme – using modern design thinking methodologies and techniques. In addition, guiding entrepreneurs through the development of their technical, business and financial models to be fit for the market entry.

    Awareness course on the requirements of ISO 14001:201 to Middle East Petroleum Refining Company

                                 

    the Institute of Productivity and Quality - Alexandria - held a course "Awareness of the requirements of ISO 14001:2015" for a distinguished group of employees of the Middle East Petroleum Refining Company - MIDOR. The course aims to familiarize learners with an introduction to environmental management systems based on the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard, how this standard can be used to develop, improve and manage the environmental management system, and how the organization can use it for self-assessment and to meet the requirements of both legislative and regulatory bodies as well as customer requirements

    Government of China "Training Program"

    For strengthening the communication and cooperation between Republic of China and other countries to achieve mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in the fields of politics, economy, culture, education and trade, as well as to develop talents for developing countries, the Chinese government has developed a series of scholarship programs in Chinese Universities, as in this regard, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor`s Office of the Embassy of the People`s Republic of China in the Arab republic of Egypt asks “China-Arab States Technology Transfer Center” of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (CASTTC-AASTMT) to nominate 28 trainees(2 trainees per training program), to participate in the following training programs, where the Chinese Government will cover all the costs of international tickets and accommodation expenses.

    2nd NSF Sustainable Smart Cities International Workshop

     The 2ND NSF Sustainable Smart Cities International Workshop examines the challenges of advancing sustainable smart cities in arid regions and the roles governments should play in these efforts. It brings together researchers, practitioners, and government decision makers in a working group format to discuss issues and lessons learned, develop criteria for evaluating and promoting sustainability projects, and identifying potential international collaborations.

    The Sustainable Smart Cities Research Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB SSCRC) was awarded an NSF Grant to develop the 2ND Sustainable Smart Cities International Workshop in Egypt. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Egyptian Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) and Alexandria University (AU) with the participation of the Arab Academy for Science Technology & Maritime Transport

    The Arab Academy for Science and Technology participates in “The Arab Week” conference for Sustainable Development

    Under the patronage of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the Arab Academy for Science and Technology participated in the activities of the “Arab Week for Sustainable Development” conference held on 4 Nov 2019, which was inaugurated by His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Debt - First Vice-President of International Transport for the 2030 Development Agenda, and Mrs. Rola Dashti - Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission, Dr. Randa Abul-Hassan, Representative of the United Nations Development Programme. It is worth noting that Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the AASTMT, participated in conducting a session on the role of joint Arab labor organizations and institutions in achieving targeted educational recruitment and technology as an advanced educational edifice in achieving sustainable development goals. His Excellency also referred to the importance of cooperation between the Arab Academy, international organizations and institutions, the European Union and the International Federation of Maritime Universities.

    The Minister of Environment witnesses the celebration of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport on the World Environment Day

    On June 10, 2019, the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, witnessed the celebration organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport on the World Environment Day in cooperation with the project (Lets Care for the Planet) IIMSAM at the AASTMT headquarters in Abu Qir. The celebration was attended by the Deputy Governor of Alexandria, Dr. Ahmed Gamal, and the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar pointed out in his speech: It is a pleasure to celebrate with you the World Environment Day, expressing his pride in organizing this celebration for the eighth year in a row.

    He added: Preserving the environment is a responsibility borne by individuals before any institution or authority and said that todays celebration is an extension of the close and continuous cooperation between the Ministry and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. As part of the AASTMT role in supporting sustainable development, Vice President Dr. Jamal Ghallush said that AASTMT uses natural gas and solar energy, and also uses environmentally friendly air conditioning and rationalizes water consumption.

    The AASTMT Industry Services Complex also converts organic fertilizer waste into fish food, in addition to the College of Fish Farming playing a very important role in preserving the environment. The Academy took an initiative with the International Maritime Organization to reduce the sulfur content from 3.5 percent to half percent, and this will put the world in a new form. It will have a positive effect on the environment

    AASTMT Organizes "Beyond Borders" to raise Awareness about Sustainable Development

    AASTMT organized "Beyond Borders" event that took place in the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport - Alexandria Campus AAST in partnership with AIESEC Egypt, UNV Egypt and Rotaract Alexandria Marine on 22 December 2019, with participation of the United Nations SDGs Advocates. The SDGs Advocates had a booth that aimed to raise awareness about Sustainable Development Goals and the work of the United Nations in Egypt in relation to the SDGs.
