Program Description

Construction and Building Engineering has always been an exciting flexible profession filled with opportunities. However, Professional engineers should have the technical skills to take on careers of leadership in the development of new construction technologies and to contribute to society through participation in policy making and governance. Our PhD program leads to the highest degree offered by the Faculty and is designed to provide students an opportunity to obtain the greatest possible expertise in the field of construction through intensive research. Advancement of analytical and/or experimental knowledge through a combination of specialized courses and a research thesis under the supervision of an experienced researcher forms the main component of the doctoral program. Where possible, research of interest to industry is encouraged. Our graduates will enhance the quality of life for people both locally and around the world by providing safe structures and by helping to restore and maintain quality in the built environment.

  • The objective of the PhD program is to educate highly qualified researchers required for the expansion of fundamental knowledge and technological innovation through research and development. The program caters to demands of industry and research institutes and places a strong emphasis on original thinking, professional behavior and ethical conduct.

Markets and Career

  • The program produces experts in research areas of generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electrical power. The program is designed to develop outstanding scholars for careers in research and teaching at leading academic institutions throughout the world. It provides post-master’s applicants the opportunity to study in a broad range of areas, many of which overlap with other disciplines within the college and AAST.

Admission Requirements

The applicant must hold a M.Sc. degree in an engineering discipline from a university accredited from the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. The applicant must pass an interview held by the department.

Brief

Course work for the PhD degree requires the completion of a minimum of (48) credit hours. Students are required to register 6 elective courses. The student can register a maximum of two courses from other departments’700 or 800 level courses to fulfil the requirements. The MSc Course CB790 Research Methods in Construction & Building Engineering (or its accredited equivalent) is a prerequisite for the Research Thesis Parts 1, 2 or 3..
