Program Description

The Masters academic track: Potential Candidates: Graduates of English Depatments in faculties of Arts, Alsun and Education and other equivalent disciplines (grade GOOD) 1. Duration: six semsters (Full-time) 2. Total Credit Hours: 36 credit hours

Learning Outcomes

  • Upon successful completion of this Programme, students should be able to: 1. Identify and analyze the role of languages in diverse sociocultural contexts and a multilingual society and the implications for language education. 2. Apply language teaching skills in the light of current language learning, discourse, and pedagogical theories. Identify language variation in professional contexts. 3. Analyze theoretical issues and practices in English for Specific Purposes and Teaching English as a Second Language. 4. Conduct research and specialise in specific areas related to English studies. 5. Examine critically language testing procedures and construct valid and reliable tests.

Markets and Career

  • Careers are available in the areas of teaching and training, syllabus, course and curriculum design, teaching materials development and production, testing and assessment, course and programme evaluation and management in ESP.

Admission Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in English/Linguistics with a general grade of "Good" or equivalent GPA. • In case the candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in English/Linguistics with a general grade of "Pass", he/she must complete either a diploma of Applied Linguistics or a diploma of Education with a general grade of “Good”.

Tests & Prerequisites

- A proof of the required English proficiency level: • a total score of 6.5 (B2) in the academic IELTS with a sub score of not less than 6 for writing and not less than 5.5 in each section; • or an equivalent score of 550 (B2) on the Institutional TOFEL test with a score of 4.5 on the Writing test (TWE); • or an equivalent score of 79 (B2) on the iBT TOFEL with a sub score of not less than 24 in writing • or submitting an official proof of scoring a B2 level in any other equivalent internationally recognized exam.
