The international instruments require each flag state to ascertain jurisdiction on its ships and to conduct an investigation into any casualty occurring to any of its ships, and when judges that such investigation after being analyzed may assist in determining what changes in regulations may be desirable.

Objectives

  • The aim of this Capacity Building Program is to provide a practical training for conducting marine safety investigations and analyses of causalities in marine casualty as per the IMO casualty investigation code with the objective of preventing re-occurrence.By completion of this program, delegate will gain competence and well understanding of:

    - Casualty investigation relevant international requirements.
    - Interpretation of the casualty investigation code and the guidelines assisting the investigators.
    - Human factor in accident context.
    - Analyses of some marine casualties.
    - Practical application of some case studies.
    - Identify the circumstances of marine casualties.
    - Identify causes and contributing factors.
    - Gathering and analyzing information technique and drawing conclusions.
    - Assign control options and barriers to prevent accidents re-occurrence.
    - Reporting process.
