Opening session of "Empowerment of Entrepreneurs" and "Establishing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises” Program

H.E Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag - President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) participated in the the activities of the opening session of the program for preparing and empowering entrepreneurs and establishing micro, small and medium enterprises that was held under the auspices of the League of Arab States on Monday 24- 1- 2021, directly through the online platform (zoom application), in the presence of H.E Ambassador Dr. Kamal Hassan Ali - League of Arab States Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, H.E Prof. Dr. Khaled Hanafi - Secretary General of the Union of Arab Chambers, Prof. Dr. Jihan Saleh - Advisor to the Egyptian Prime Minister, Prof. Dr. Hashem Hussein - Head of the UNIDO Office – Bahrain - President of the International Arab Center for Entrepreneurship, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Arabi - President of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Dr. Basil Al-Khatib - Regional Director of the UNIDO Office in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Prof. Dr. Sara El-Gazzar - Dean of AASTMT College of International Transport and Logistics, Dr. Raafat Abbas - Head of the Central Sector for Non-Financial Services in the MSME Development Authority, Dr. Ghada Khalil - Executive Director of the ROWAD 2030 Project at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in Egypt, and Dr. Wael Desouky - Director of AASTMT Entrepreneurship Center.
This session was held in line with the recommendations of Arab Private Sector Forum that was held in Beirut in 2019 to promote micro, small and medium enterprises and create job opportunities for young people in the Arab region through the establishment of entrepreneurship centers and women empowerment programs, and in implementation of the recommendations of the Small and Medium Enterprises Symposium that was held in co-operation between the League of Arab States and the Federation of Arab Chambers, regarding the consequences of the Corona crisis on small and medium enterprises in the Arab world, where the previous recommendations have been activated by the Federation of Arab Chambers and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) - ITPO / AICEI Bahrain to start establishing and operating centers to support entrepreneurs (EDIP) in coordination with AASTMT, the Arab Union for Agricultural Development and the Arab Federation for Small and Medium Enterprises.
Moreover, the initiative was held under the umbrella of the Presidency of the Egyptian Council of Ministers, the Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Egyptian Ministry of Planning, the Central Bank of Egypt, the Egyptian Foundation for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMEDA), and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce.
