Student Training at the Faculty of Pharmacy – AbuKir

Student training is one of the most important points of excellence in the academic program of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport - Abu Qir Branch. Students are provided with many basic and advanced skills in all disciplines of pharmacy and clinical pharmacy in particular, through training programs outside the college in hospitals, companies and private pharmacies, and within the college building also through advanced material and construction capabilities with the availability of distinguished training experiences.

In partnership with the Alexandria Pharmacists Syndicate, students are trained in more than one hundred private pharmacies in various geographical distributions within the city of Alexandria under academic and professional supervision. Students are also trained in the various clinical departments of the hospitals with which cooperation agreements have been concluded, and the student is obligated to submit an analytical report on a number of clinical cases in application of what has been studied in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy. The students are also trained in the different departments of pharmaceutical and medical supplies companies (research and development - quality control - production - quality assurance - planning and marketing - medical devices). During the last semester, each student is trained through the educational platform of the American Society of Health Sector Pharmacists "ASHP" specialized training on 17 parts of clinical pharmacy applications, through which the student obtains after passing the assessments a "Clinical Skills Certificate for International Pharmacy" that he receives upon graduation.

The college also provides internship possibilities, which are represented in the educational pharmacy furnished similar to the design of private pharmacies and accommodates 50 students in addition to trainers. The student is trained to review prescriptions, side effects, drug conflicts, dispense medications and provide consultations through role-sharing and analytical discussions. The faculty also has a miniature pharmaceutical factory on the ground floor, in which the student is trained on miniature models of Devices used in the production, analysis and control of a number of pharmaceutical products in companies. The advanced device "Body Interact" " was also included for practical training within the college, where this device uses artificial intelligence applications to enable the student to interact with the patient, study the clinical situation and make decisions for pharmacy practice according to the studied scenario and periodically reviewed by specialized international scientific societies. The faculty also has two computer laboratories and simulation programs for various disciplines, the most important of which is the design of chemical compounds CAAD Computer Aided Drug Design using artificial intelligence techniques.

Students are also optionally trained on the basics of scientific research under the supervision of faculty members and participation in the results of their research in scientific conferences, and through cooperation with local research institutions such as the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications in Burj Al Arab, and international universities such as the University of Bradford in England and Marburg in Germany. Students also have the opportunity to train internationally through cooperation with the Belarusian University of Medical Sciences.

The Faculty is honored by the contributions of the Advisory Committee of the Faculty Council, which includes in its membership the President of the Alexandria Pharmacists Syndicate, the chairmen of the boards of directors of some companies and hospitals, and the Director General of the General Administration of Pharmacy. This committee participates in providing the college with improvement proposals, discussing the development of student training outputs, determining competition points for the academic program, following up on the competitiveness of graduates in the fields of work, promoting the teaching and training program, and employing graduates. The college also actively participates in the activities of the Academy's Industry Advisory Council, which is held twice a year as a point of contact between the academic community and the pharmaceutical community in all its fields. The faculty is also interested in participating in important events for the pharmaceutical community, the latest of which was the annual conference of the Pharmacists Syndicate in Alexandria and the Third International Conference on Health Care at Alexandria University.
