Graduation Requirements

After finishing the study in the College of Dentistry, the candidate receives Bachelor of Oral and Dental Surgery (BDS).The duration of the study in this program is five years according to the credit hour system. Each academic year is divided into two semesters (15 weeks each). Some courses may be given during a summer semester for 6-8 weeks of condensed study. The credit hour is the unit of study measurement and it is equivalent to one hour of lecture per week or at least 2 laboratory practical hours or 3 hours of clinical training per week for one semester.To be qualified for Bachelor of Oral and Dental Surgery (BDS) the candidate must:1. Complete 182 credit hours courses divided on 10 semesters (5 years) and 80 hours as summer clinical training following semester 8, and for 4 weeks.2. The 182 credit hours courses are subdivided as follows: 10 credit hours University requirement 170 credit hours mandatory college courses, 2 credit hours elective dentistry courses (2 courses 1 credit hour each)3. Complete internship one year (12 months) of training in different clinical dental specialties including Operative Dentistry, Removable Prosthodontics, Fixed Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, and Periodontology. It should be noted that 3 months of this internship year should be spent in the College of Dentistry /AASTMT, and the other 9 months are spent in different ministry of health hospitals and Alexandria University hospitals.4. The student must earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 (C equivalent to 60%)After achieving the requirements of degree attainment and completing graduation procedures, the nationality of the Academy Alumni cannot be altered. It is also prohibited to improve the GPA after the end of the study years and obtaining the degree. Student nationality alteration may be considered during the years of study in accordance with the legal constraints specified by the Academy.
