Description

This course includes describing the manifestations of renewal in poetry and prose in its genres in the modern era. It also involves enumerating the most important figures of the modern renaissance, poets and writers in this era, and identifying the modern literary genres from prose imported from the West to Arabic literature, such as (article, short story, story, and play). Furthermore, it introduces students to the artistic form of free verse and the issue of getting rid of the obligatory rhyme, realizing the extent of the ability of free verse to absorb the poet’s thought, feelings, and express his issues and problems easily and smoothly, and mentioning the factors that helped the renaissance of modern literature. The course also aims to enable students to analyze poetic and prose texts, critique them, and identify their strengths and weaknesses, compare the artistic form of free verse with the artistic form of ancient poetry, classify free verse poets according to the trend they belong to, compare the different theatrical schools, realize the inability of what is called the third language to employ theatrical dialogue, and discuss the urgent issues on the minds of Arab writers and reformulate reality according to their visions. In addition, the course helps students to analyze creative texts with what they have learned from the characteristics of poetry and prose in the modern era, prepare literary research without errors related to the concepts they studied, write a report on one of the course items, and deliver poetic or prose texts with their vocal performance, achieving the standards of vocal Arabic. Moreover, it develops the ability to search in libraries through what is assigned to it from items related to the course, present what is assigned to it in front of his colleagues and manage dialogue and scientific discussion with them, and develop public taste and high literary sense by employing what he has learned from the masterpieces of literature.

  • By the end of this course, students will be able to recognize the general state of literature from the beginning of the modern renaissance with its various influences before and at the beginning of the renaissance, the most important cultural and literary trends, arts, models, and the most important figures in poetry and prose, and an applied study of the most important poetic and prose models: (article - story - novel - play).
