Urban Open Spaces Workshop at AASTMT

As part of the Erasmus+ RADIO Project, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) organized an Urban Open Spaces Workshop on 30 March 2026, hosted by the Department of Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design for senior students of the Landscape Studio.

The workshop aimed to introduce students to structured approaches for understanding and analysing urban open spaces, with a particular focus on public parks and their role in serving local communities.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to a range of practical tools and methodologies, including:

  • Urban Open Space Attributes Identification
  • Problems Mapping
  • Field Observation Methodologies
  • Analysis of Public Spaces
  • Case Studies of Alexandria’s Parks

The workshop encouraged students to engage with real-life cases from parks across Alexandria and develop a deeper understanding of how public spaces function and how their accessibility, usability, and overall user experience can be improved.

The activity provided students with an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with practical applications. Through discussion, observation, and analytical exercises, participants strengthened their skills in identifying challenges within urban open spaces and developing appropriate approaches for analysing them.

As a follow-up to the workshop, students will conduct field-based analyses of selected park spaces, followed by the development of concept proposals and design ideas aimed at improving accessibility, usability, and the overall user experience of Alexandria’s parks.

The workshop represents an important example of the transfer of knowledge and project outcomes into the academic environment, supporting capacity building, hands-on learning, and meaningful engagement with future designers and urban planners within the framework of the Erasmus+ RADIO Project.

Green AI Workshop: Integrating Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Innovation

The German University in Cairo (GUC), as part of the Erasmus+ RADIO Project, successfully organized a two-day interdisciplinary workshop titled “Green AI: Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Engineering, Urban Design, and Human Resources for Sustainable Innovation”, held on 10–11 December 2025.

The workshop brought together academics, researchers, and practitioners to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence in supporting sustainable innovation and addressing emerging challenges across different sectors.

The program featured a combination of keynote contributions, scientific presentations, thematic sessions, research discussions, and a concluding roundtable, providing participants with opportunities for knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and discussion of emerging research directions.

Throughout the workshop, participants explored a wide range of topics, including:

  • Efficient AI Algorithms and Hardware
  • Advanced Sensing and Smart Perception
  • AI Applications in Circuits and Systems
  • AI for Modern Electric Grids
  • Privacy-Preserving Data Processing
  • IoT for Urban Intelligence
  • Embedded Machine Learning
  • Human Resources in AI-Driven Systems
  • Responsible and Sustainable AI

A dedicated closed research discussion session was also conducted to explore opportunities for strengthening research cooperation and identifying potential interdisciplinary synergies among the participating researchers and institutions.

The workshop concluded with a roundtable panel discussion, providing a platform for participants to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities associated with the deployment of Green AI solutions in engineering, urban environments, and organizational systems.

Through its multidisciplinary approach, the workshop contributed to strengthening capacity building, scientific exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and knowledge development in emerging Artificial Intelligence technologies, while highlighting the importance of sustainable, responsible, and human-centred AI solutions.

RADIO Project EU Monitoring Visit

As part of the European Union’s monitoring and evaluation activities for Erasmus+ funded projects, a Project Officer from the European Union conducted a monitoring visit for the Erasmus+ RADIO Project at the German University in Cairo (GUC).

The monitoring visit aimed to review the progress of the RADIO Project, assess the quality of its implementation, and engage directly with the project team and representatives of the participating partner institutions.

During the visit, the RADIO team presented the progress achieved within the project and provided an overview of the activities implemented to date. The monitoring discussions covered several key areas of project implementation, including work package progress, governance and coordination mechanisms, dissemination and sustainability plans, and the project’s contribution to strengthening research and innovation capacities within participating universities.

The visit also provided an opportunity for constructive discussions between the Project Officer, the RADIO project team, and representatives of the partner institutions. Feedback was exchanged on the achievements and challenges encountered during implementation, together with recommendations aimed at further enhancing the project’s impact and ensuring the successful delivery of its planned outcomes.

The EU monitoring visit highlighted the importance of quality assurance, continuous monitoring, effective coordination, and institutional collaboration in achieving the objectives of the Erasmus+ RADIO Project. It also reinforced cooperation between European and Egyptian higher education institutions and provided valuable guidance for the continued implementation of the project.

RADIO Project Coordinator Visit to RADIO Campus and Micro-Lab

The RADIO Project Coordinator paid an institutional visit to the RADIO Campus at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Alexandria, Egypt, as part of the ongoing activities of the Erasmus+ RADIO Project.

The visit provided an opportunity to explore the academic environment and institutional facilities supporting the implementation of the RADIO Project. The Coordinator was welcomed by the AASTMT team and participated in an on-site tour of the university campus.

As part of the visit, the Coordinator also toured the RADIO Micro-Lab, where the project team presented an overview of the laboratory facilities, the current status of project implementation, ongoing activities, and the progress achieved to date.

The visit highlighted the readiness of the RADIO Micro-Lab and the quality of the infrastructure established to support the project's activities. Discussions also emphasized the commitment of the AASTMT team to implementing the planned activities and contributing effectively to the overall objectives of the RADIO Project.

The institutional visit provided a valuable opportunity for direct engagement, knowledge exchange, project follow-up, and strengthening collaboration among the project partners. It also offered an opportunity to review the progress achieved on the ground and discuss the continued development of the project's activities and infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the visit, the RADIO Project Coordinator expressed her appreciation for the facilities and academic environment at AASTMT, highlighting the available institutional capacities and the progress achieved within the RADIO Project.
