Dear Students

With great honor comes great responsibility to be the Dean of the College of ArtificialIntelligence at Arab academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in the NewEl-Alamein City. The AASTMT, established in 1972, is getting ready to celebrate its gold anniversary in2022, with a series of events that will commemorate its steady growth, achievements of its students,reputable education, advanced research, and outstanding community service.

The College of Artificial Intelligence, established in September 2019, is the first establishedcollege for Artificial Intelligence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The collegeprovides new pathways for talented students and faculty to research, create, and apply AI and machinelearning (ML) across all disciplines.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of study in computer science that focuses on creatingcomputer systems that perform tasks that require human intelligence. This can include visualperception, decision-making, machine translation, and even speech recognition. Current application ofAI in key areas include:

  • Robotics process automation, which allows us to emulate and integrate the actions of humanwith digital systems to be able to reduce labor costs as well as prevent human error.
  • Planning and optimization, which helps us determine necessary steps to complete a series oftasks that can save time and money, and improve safety.
  • Computer vision, which allows us perceiving and learning visual tasks from the world throughcameras and sensors.
  • Prediction, which allows us to perform event forecasting and pattern analysis
  • Natural language understanding by using machines, which will help us to process, analyze,understand, and mimic human language, either spoken or written.
  • Modeling our physical economic and social world to support the study, optimization, and testingof operations through simulation without interfering or interrupting ongoing processes.

You must be proud to be admitted to the College of Artificial Intelligence at AASTMT, aprestigious college with the best professors, and curriculum in the field of AI. You decided to join a fieldof a frontier science that changes so fast and yet affects all aspects of our life. You have started your firststep towards a promising career in AI-related fields. Here are some advice to you:

  • Study regularly throughout the semester for all your classes.
  • Set high personal and academic standards for yourself, and live up to them.
  • Do not put off until tomorrow what you can do today. Study should come before pleasure.
  • Believe in yourself and listen to that little voice inside you that says, “I can do this.”
  • Stay updated on the latest AI research, not just by getting the information but also by sharing itwith others, building on it and making your contribution to field.

Your efforts and passion will pay off. Wishing you all the best in what lies ahead and good luckand congratulations!
