Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry
Aim and Scope:
This project aims at developing and strengthening the link between the Academia and Industry in Egypt and producing a new generation of engineers capable of performing constructive engineering work. This shall target postgraduate students and professional engineers in a (Masters of Engineering)/(industry-tailored world-class certified professional training) modular program, which shall be the first of its kind in Egypt.
The Masters degree developed here will have a National Impact in being an example of how these types of degrees can be formulated to serve the community and industry. The modular program shall be developed in cooperation between universities, public authorities, NGOs, government research institutions, and representatives from the industry. A detailed study will be prepared on the similar existing programs in Europe, Egypt and the US to allow for the consortium members to decide on all practical details of the project.
The new Masters program will be designed to follow the ECTS, which will encourage student exchange between the consortium members. Students should be able to complete the Masters in 4 semesters. An additional 5th semester shall be offered for certified professional training to integrate academic and technical aspects of the subject. The new Masters program will be designed to evolve to double degree with EU partner institutions during the project lifetime to finally yield for NU to fully join (EU4M) ERASMUS MUNDUS Masters program formed by the 3 EU academic partners to be among the first Egyptian academic institution to join similar consortium.
The project has officially started in October 2010 and will span for three years.

Roles:
The partners in this project are so ed to provide the needed expertise in defining the exact Egyptian academic/technical needs and in compiling them in course contents on the academic/professional training levels.
They are divided into four groups: EG Universities (ASU, HU, NU, and AAST):
These are the partners in which academic and training courses will be implemented. NU is the first in a new class of academic institutions in Egypt that embraces partnership with the private sector NGO (The Egyptian Foundation for Technology Education), government and industry. NU has recently joined EU4M as an associate member in a step towards full membership in 2013 as one of the outcomes of this project. AAST is committed to the provision of education and training services to a multinational student and customer base.
The engineering school attempts to ensure that its programs meet the requirements of the industrial fields. AAST is located closely and has strong ties with the second largest industrial city in Egypt in Alexandria.
ASU, HU, NU and AAST are already partners in previous TEMPUS projects and are capable of providing the developed courses.EG Universities (UNIOVI, HSKA, and ENSMM):These are the partner institutions which will develop the academic courses.
HSKA, ENSMM and UNIOVI are the consortium members of an existing ERASMUS MUNDUS Masters. The educational languages in the current three ERASMUS MUNDUS partners are German, French and Spanish, where it shall be in English in NU. This shall directly serve the EU objectives regarding cultural exchange and integration of EU with neighbouring countries.EG Professional Training Provider (FESTO):FESTO will be responsible of developing the professional training courses. In the professional training part, FESTO will establish a certified training facility at NU to provide the Egyptian engineers and trainers with hands-on training that is directly related to the Egyptian industry needs.
Additionally all developed courses will follow the ECTS to facilitate EG/EU students exchange.NGO's, private industry, govermental bodies (EEC, OIA, ASTF, and P&G):These are the partner organizations where the outcome of the project (trained and educated engineers) shall feed in and where the market needs and academia/industry partnership shall be formulated.
