Student Unions

AASTMT Students’ Union

The AASTMT Student Union Policy shows how the student unions formation and elections Representing the needs and interests of students throughout the school is a critical function of the AASTMT Students' Union. It creates a lively campus environment by providing a forum for student activism, empowerment, and engagement.

.Policy Purpose

This policy demonstrates how AASTMT supports students by empowering them to form diverse and representative student unions, fostering public engagement and collaborative decision-making.

Policy Statement

Student unions are established under the supervision of the Deanship of Student Affairs through transparent and fair elections among students across various colleges. These unions not only amplify the voice of students but also serve as a platform for public participation, allowing students to engage actively in university governance and community development.

Through their initiatives, student unions enhance communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills by organizing and implementing AASTMT activities and service projects. Furthermore, these unions represent the interests of students and periodically meet with senior administration to convey student ideas, rights, and concerns, ensuring their voices are heard and contributing to the continuous improvement of the student community at the University. The AASTMT President regularly holds formal meetings with student unions, fostering an environment of employee involvement and political engagement to listen to their recommendations and promote free speech and individual rights.

Policy Description

AASTMT has established general rules and conditions for candidacy in college student council elections, which are accessible on the AASTMT website. Students wishing to nominate themselves for elections are encouraged to do so through the Deanship. The Deanship reviews the candidates, and after this, electronic elections and voting commence. Upon completion of the voting process, the candidate receiving the highest number of votes becomes the Student Union President, the candidate with the second-highest votes is appointed as Vice President, and the remaining nominees become council members.

Student unions within AASTMT are empowered to prepare and execute their events, participating in diverse activities throughout the Academy while ensuring that transparency, democracy, and the rule of law are upheld. AASTMT is committed to fostering a participative approach that values freedom of expression and the liberties of all students, positioning them as active participants in a vibrant academic community.
