Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery Policy

1-Purpose

This policy ensures that AASTMT is opposing and decreasing the Anti-bribery and Anti-corruption on its campuses. It demonstrates how AASTMT deals with Gifts. All types of bribery, corruption, and unethical activity are forbidden by AASTMT, regardless of whether they are carried out by its staff, students, or anyone else working on its behalf. The University expects all members of its community to uphold the highest ethical standards and is dedicated to fostering a culture of honesty, integrity, and responsibility.

2-Scope

This policy applies to all AASTMT campuses' academic staff and administrative staff.

3-Policy Statement

AASTMT is committed to conducting its businesses and other educational processes in an ethical and honest manner and is committed to implementing systems that ensure an anti-bribery atmosphere within AASTMT. The University has zero tolerance for bribery and corrupt activities and is committed to acting professionally, fairly, and with integrity in all its academic or non-academic activities within campus or the business dealing and relationship with external entities.

4-Overview of Egypt's Anti-Corruption Laws

AASTMT implementing the Egyptian anti-corruption law. National Anti-Corruption Authority (NACA) was established by the Egyptian Government to investigate and act against corrupt practices.
The Egyptian Penal Code: The Penal Code criminalizes bribery, embezzlement, abuse of power, and other forms of corrupt practices. It outlines both public and private sector corruption and establishes penalties for individuals or entities found guilty of engaging in corrupt activities.

5- Anti-Corruption and Bribery Rules and Regulations in AASTMT

5-1 Prohibited Conduct

  • AASTMT does not prohibit modest gifts and reasonable hospitality (given and received) to or from third parties provided certain rules and requirements are met. All AASTMT staff should adhere strictly to the following guidelines with respect to gifts or any similar issue:
  • Never offer any gift or any kind of entertainment where this may be construed as a briber.
  • Never accept a gift where this may be construed as a bribe or be otherwise improper.
  • Never offer a gift to a public official where this may be construed as a bribe or an attempt to influence the public official in his capacity.
  • AASTMT strictly prohibits giving or receiving any financial or non-financial bribes to or from any person or organization.
  • All donations and sponsorships made by AASTMT must be transparent, properly documented, and comply with applicable laws and regulations. They should not be used to influence or gain unfair advantage.

 

6-Reporting and Whistleblowing

AASTMT is dedicated to creating a culture of integrity and transparency and encourages the reporting of any suspected or actual instances of corruption or bribery. Employees and stakeholders are strongly encouraged to promptly report such concerns through the designated reporting channels. AASTMT is committed to protecting the confidentiality and anonymity of individuals making reports, as appropriate. All reports will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken.

7- Compliance

Compliance with this policy is mandatory for everyone associated with AASTMT. Any breach of this policy will result in disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment or contractual relationships. AASTMT is committed to enforcing this policy consistently and fairly to maintain the highest standards of integrity.

AASTMT always seeking for fair and neutral work environment by fighting corruption and raising awareness about fighting corruption and bribery regarding the Egyptian Labor Law and AASTMT working rules and regulations. The next section shows some of these activities.

Human Rights and Fighting Corruption Course

In a course provided by College of Law, the course gives an overview of the ethical and human rights implications of recent advances in the life and biomedical sciences from multiple religious and cultural perspectives. The course also discusses international and regional human rights law and specialized topics include corporate social responsibility, children and women’s human rights.

AASTMT Participation in the model conference of the state’s parties of the UN convention against corruption in Aswan

Model COSP launched, the model was organized by the Administrative Control Authority of Egypt in cooperation with AASTMT.

AASTMT launches the Model COSP with collaboration with the USAID Economic Governance Activity and Aswan University to launch the Model COSP in Aswan Governorate. This initiative aimed to promote transparent and participative political engagement among university students. Approximately 255 students from AASTMT and Aswan University participated in the Model COSP, where they learned about the UN Convention against Corruption and engaged in simulations of anti-corruption discussions and policymaking.

Sustainability and Transparency Reporting

The Academy produced detailed sustainability reports, which transparently outline its policies, aims, and achievements related to various UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
