• is course provides an introduction to metal technology through the different historical periods through studying the chemical and physical properties of metals. The course provides a solid foundation of the methods of metalworking techniques (casting, forging, folding, sawing and cutting), methods of joining techniques (soldering, welding, mechanical joining and gluing/cementin), methods of some supplementary techniques (repousse, chasing, raising (metalwork), metal spinning and annealing of metallurgy), and methods of surface decoration techniques (enamelling, niello, engraving, etching and granulation). In addition to the previous techniques, the course also focuses on the methods of examination and documentation used to identify the condition of the archaeological metal or alloy before conducting restoration and conservation, through focusing on identifying the various deterioration factors that cause deterioration and damage of the metal artefacts. Students will get ample training on the various restoration and conservation methods used in the restoration and conservation of the metal, from the various stages of cleaning to the museum display or archaeological storage..
