• is course introduces the care and conservation of papyrus and parchment manuscripts. The curriculum includes an overview of manufacture of the papyrus and parchment manuscripts through the different historical periods. The course provides students with solid foundation in the knowledge of the biological and chemical composition of papyrus and parchment. It will focus on the deterioration factors of the writing material in terms of physical, chemical, and biological. Students will be subjected to the different methods of examining and analysis of papyrus and parchment manuscripts, as well as the traditional and modern methods of care and conservation. In addition, students will be trained on conservation methods on excavation sites and in laboratories. The curriculum presents the methods of care, conservation and display of papyrus and parchment manuscripts in museums and public libraries..
