By the end of this course students should be able to: 1.1 Trace the history of early communication models and introduction. 1.2 define the concept of theory and model. 1.3 Understand the main purposes of communication theories. 1.4 Differentiate between different approaches in mass communication theories. 1.5 present different communication theories assumptions and uses.. 1.6 Understand the use of communication theories in scientific research. 1.7 Recognize the importance of theoretical models. 1.8 identify the different approaches to study the elements of communication process. 2 . Intellectual Skills By the end of this course students should be able to: 2.1 analyze communication theories and models history and applications . 2.2 Analyze scientific methods in conducting academic research. 2.3 Differentiate between theories of media effects and theories of media use. 2.4 Differentiate between communication models and theory . 2.5 Analyze and critique theories using appropriate criteria. 2.6 Analyze the role of models and theory in explaining communication problem 2.7present different theoretical approaches for analyze different communication phenomenon. 3. Professional and Practical skills By the end of this course students should be able to: 3.1 Use, Evaluate and conduct research into communication field. 3.2 Choose, Understand and deal with different uses of communication theories. 3.3 Plan to Measure the direct and indirect effects of mass media upon targeted audiences. 3.4 Use theory and research methods including standards of evaluation and analysis of theories. 3.5 Use theories of communication to analyze media situations. 3.6 Choose the suitable model for analyze mass communication phenomena . 4.General and Transferable skills By the end of this course students should be able to: 4.1 Apply simple research task . 4.2 Use suitable communication theories, methods and approaches that achieve research goals. 4.3 Criticize using communication theories to communication processes. 4.4 Manage and collect a- well defined data about the effect of media on audience . 4.5 Apply critical analysis skills about the use of mass media as a tool of communication.

Objectives

  • This course provides the students with examination and critical analysis of major theories in communication process, starting from the really communication models and scholar's attempts to understand the core elements of communication, to major theories that try to understand the effect of media on audience, how audience use media, how people learn from media and how media shape people's opinion, attitudes and views. This course gives the students the ability to look deep to any media content in relation to major communication theories and empowers them with using these theories in creating any new media content. Also this course enables the students to understand the role of media theories and models in scientific research and the different steps that should be followed to study the relationship between media, society and people.
