Description

The course is an introduction to modern operating systems. Upon successful completion of the course, the student should acquire ample knowledge about the concepts, structure, design principles, implementation issues, and mechanisms of operating systems. Hands on experience will be gained through a lab component and programming assignments. Furthermore, Windows 2000 and Unix/Linux will be presented as case studies of operating systems.

  • Overviews of Intel 8086 Microprocessor – Memory address space and data organization. Addressing modes of 8086. Assembly language programming of 8086 – machine code construction procedures and macros. Assembler directives. Comparison of 8088 Minimum mode and Maximum mode – system timing. Interrupts and interrupt priority management in 8086. Architecture and s of 8088/8086 processors. Basic I/O interface and interrupts.
