Description

This course introduces the fundamental principles and applications of research methodology. It covers the main stages of the research process, including problem identification, literature review, formulation of research questions and hypotheses, research design, sampling, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of results, and scientific reporting. The course examines qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method research approaches, as well as basic statistical and analytical techniques. Emphasis is also placed on research ethics, academic integrity, referencing, scientific writing, and the practical application of research methods to real-world problems. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles and stages of the scientific research process. Identify and formulate appropriate research problems, questions, objectives, and hypotheses. Conduct a structured literature review using appropriate academic sources. Select suitable qualitative, quantitative, or mixed research methods. Design a basic research study and develop an appropriate methodology. Apply suitable sampling, data collection, and data analysis techniques. Interpret and critically evaluate research findings. Apply research ethics, academic integrity, and appropriate referencing practices. Prepare and present a structured scientific research proposal or report.

To enable students to apply appropriate research methodologies to address practical problems and challenges in marine, environmental, and related fields.
