This course introduces the principles and practices of specialized surveying in maritime and marine-related applications. It covers different types of specialized inspections and surveys conducted to assess the condition, safety, compliance, and operational performance of vessels, machinery, marine structures, and specialized equipment. Topics include survey planning, inspection techniques, non-destructive testing, condition assessment, defect identification, regulatory compliance, documentation, and technical reporting. The course emphasizes the selection of appropriate survey methods and tools according to the type of asset, operational requirements, and applicable standards. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles and purposes of specialized surveying. Identify different types of specialized surveys and their applications in maritime and marine industries. Select appropriate inspection and survey methods for specific technical and operational requirements. Apply basic techniques for condition assessment and defect identification. Interpret survey findings and assess their implications for safety, performance, and compliance. Demonstrate awareness of relevant standards, regulations, and survey procedures.
