Small Craft Survey

Description

This course introduces the principles and practices of small craft survey and inspection. It covers the examination and assessment of small vessels, including recreational boats, yachts, fishing boats, and other small craft. Topics include hull construction and materials, structural inspection, propulsion and machinery systems, electrical and onboard systems, safety equipment, stability, seaworthiness, maintenance, and defect identification. The course also addresses survey procedures, condition assessment, technical reporting, and relevant standards and regulations to ensure the safety and proper operation of small craft. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles and purposes of small craft surveying. Identify the main types, structures, systems, and components of small craft. Conduct basic inspections of hulls, machinery, electrical systems, and safety equipment. Identify common defects, damage, deterioration, and maintenance requirements. Assess the general condition, seaworthiness, and safety of small vessels. Apply appropriate survey and inspection procedures. Prepare and interpret basic small craft survey and condition reports. Demonstrate awareness of relevant standards, regulations, and safety requirements for small craft.

To develop students’ ability to assess the seaworthiness, safety, and general condition of small vessels. To promote the application of relevant standards, regulations, and safety requirements in small craft surveying.
