This course introduces the principles and practices of energy efficiency management in the maritime industry. It examines energy consumption in ships, ports, and maritime operations and explores the technical, operational, and management factors that influence energy performance. Topics include energy auditing, fuel and energy consumption analysis, energy-performance indicators, propulsion efficiency, machinery optimization, operational measures, alternative energy sources, and emission reduction strategies. The course also addresses energy management planning, monitoring, performance evaluation, and sustainable approaches for improving energy efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of maritime activities. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles and importance of energy efficiency in the maritime industry. Identify the main sources of energy consumption in ships, ports, and maritime operations. Analyze factors affecting fuel consumption and energy performance. Apply basic methods for assessing and monitoring energy efficiency. Evaluate technical and operational measures for improving energy performance. Assess the relationship between energy efficiency, fuel consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. Develop basic energy management and efficiency improvement strategies. Propose sustainable solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of maritime operations.
