Description

This course introduces the principles and practices of environmental risk assessment and management. It covers the identification of environmental hazards, exposure pathways, vulnerability, likelihood, and potential consequences of environmental risks. Students will examine qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods, risk characterization, risk ranking, and uncertainty analysis. The course also addresses risk prevention, mitigation, monitoring, emergency preparedness, and environmental management strategies. Applications may include pollution, industrial activities, coastal and marine development, climate-related hazards, and other environmental challenges. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles and stages of environmental risk assessment and management. Identify potential environmental hazards and sources of risk. Analyze exposure pathways, vulnerability, likelihood, and potential consequences. Apply basic qualitative and quantitative environmental risk assessment methods. Evaluate and prioritize environmental risks using appropriate criteria. Develop suitable risk prevention, mitigation, and management strategies. Design basic environmental monitoring and risk management plans. Apply environmental risk assessment principles to real-world environmental and marine management scenarios.
