Description

This course introduces the principles and techniques of machinery performance assessment, with particular emphasis on marine machinery and equipment. It covers the evaluation of key performance indicators such as power output, efficiency, fuel and energy consumption, operating temperature, pressure, vibration, and reliability. Students will examine performance testing, data collection, condition monitoring, diagnostic methods, and the identification of performance deterioration and operational faults. The course also addresses the effects of maintenance, operating conditions, and equipment aging on machinery performance, with emphasis on improving efficiency, reliability, safety, and sustainability. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles of machinery performance assessment. Identify key performance parameters and indicators for different types of machinery. Collect and interpret basic machinery performance data. Analyze factors affecting machinery efficiency, reliability, and operational performance. Apply basic performance testing and condition-monitoring techniques. Identify signs of performance deterioration, inefficiency, and potential equipment faults. Evaluate the effects of operating conditions and maintenance on machinery performance. Recommend appropriate measures for improving machinery efficiency, reliability, and operational safety.
