This course introduces the fundamental principles and applications of satellite geodesy. It examines the use of artificial satellites for determining precise positions, monitoring the Earth’s shape and gravity field, and measuring changes in the Earth's surface. Topics include GNSS/GPS, satellite orbits, geodetic reference systems, coordinate systems, positioning methods, precise point positioning, differential positioning, and satellite data processing. The course also explores applications in geodetic surveying, mapping, crustal deformation monitoring, sea-level studies, coastal and marine applications, and environmental monitoring. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles and importance of satellite geodesy. Describe the main components and applications of GNSS and satellite positioning systems. Explain basic concepts of satellite orbits, geodetic reference systems, and coordinate systems. Apply basic satellite-based positioning techniques. Collect and process GNSS and other satellite geodetic data. Perform basic coordinate transformations and interpret positioning results. Assess the accuracy and limitations of satellite geodetic measurements. Apply satellite geodesy techniques to surveying, mapping, coastal, marine, and environmental applications.
