This course introduces the fundamental principles and applications of geodetic surveying. It covers the shape and dimensions of the Earth, coordinate and reference systems, geodetic datums, map projections, and geodetic control networks. The course also examines modern measurement techniques and technologies, including GNSS/GPS, total stations, leveling, and satellite-based positioning systems. Students will learn the principles of establishing geodetic control points, collecting and processing survey data, performing coordinate transformations, and assessing measurement accuracy and errors. Applications in mapping, engineering, infrastructure development, coastal and marine surveying are also addressed. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles and concepts of geodetic surveying. Describe the Earth’s reference systems, coordinate systems, and geodetic datums. Apply basic geodetic measurement and positioning techniques. Use GNSS/GPS and other modern surveying technologies for position determination. Establish and interpret basic geodetic control networks. Process and analyze geodetic survey data and coordinate information. Assess measurement accuracy and identify common sources of surveying errors. Apply geodetic surveying principles to mapping, engineering, coastal, and marine applications.
