Description

This course examines the diversity, importance, and sustainable management of marine resources within the context of the Blue Economy. It covers both living resources, such as fisheries, aquaculture, and marine biodiversity, and non-living resources, including minerals, energy resources, and other ocean-based resources. The course explores the principles of sustainability, resource conservation, ecosystem-based management, and responsible resource utilization. It also addresses major challenges such as overexploitation, pollution, habitat degradation, climate change, and competing uses of marine resources. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Identify and classify major living and non-living marine resources. Explain the economic, environmental, and social importance of marine resources. Analyze the main challenges affecting the sustainable use of marine resources. Assess the impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems and resources. Apply the principles of sustainability and ecosystem-based management to marine resource use. Evaluate strategies and policies for the conservation and sustainable management of marine resources. Propose appropriate solutions for balancing marine resource utilization with environmental protection and long-term sustainability.

To develop students’ ability to evaluate sustainable approaches to marine resource management within the Blue Economy.
