Description

This course introduces the fundamental principles and applications of navigation and marine surveying. It covers methods of position fixing, chart reading, route planning, compass navigation, electronic navigation systems, and satellite-based positioning technologies such as GPS/GNSS. The course also examines the principles and techniques of marine and hydrographic surveying, including depth measurement, seabed mapping, positioning, data collection, and the use of modern survey instruments and technologies. Emphasis is placed on the importance of accurate navigation and marine survey data for maritime safety, coastal and marine development, resource management, and environmental monitoring. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles of marine navigation and surveying. Apply basic navigation techniques for determining position, direction, and routes. Interpret nautical charts and use relevant navigation information. Describe the main applications of GPS/GNSS and other electronic navigation systems. Explain the principles and methods of hydrographic and marine surveying. Collect, process, and interpret basic marine survey data. Evaluate the importance of accurate navigation and surveying for maritime safety and sustainable marine management.

To promote safe, accurate, and efficient navigation and marine data acquisition practices.
