This course introduces the fundamental principles of port engineering and management. It covers port planning, site selection, design, construction, and maintenance of major port infrastructure, including harbors, breakwaters, berths, terminals, and cargo-handling facilities. The course also examines port operations, logistics, vessel traffic, cargo management, safety, security, and environmental management. Particular emphasis is placed on smart ports, digitalization, sustainability, and the role of ports in supporting international trade and the Blue Economy. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles of port engineering and management. Identify the main components and infrastructure of modern ports. Analyze factors involved in port planning, design, and development. Describe major port operations, logistics systems, and cargo-handling processes. Evaluate the role of ports in maritime transport, international trade, and supply chains. Assess operational, environmental, safety, and management challenges facing ports. Apply sustainable and innovative approaches to improve port efficiency and performance.
