Description

This course provides an overview of the principles and processes involved in oil and gas exploration and exploitation, with particular emphasis on offshore resources. It covers the formation and occurrence of hydrocarbon resources, geological and geophysical exploration methods, seismic surveys, drilling operations, reservoir assessment, production, and transportation. The course also addresses offshore technologies, environmental impacts, operational risks, health and safety considerations, and sustainable management practices within the oil and gas sector. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the fundamental principles of oil and gas exploration and exploitation. Identify the main stages involved in the exploration, drilling, production, and transportation of hydrocarbons. Describe basic geological and geophysical techniques used in hydrocarbon exploration. Analyze the technical and operational challenges associated with offshore oil and gas activities. Assess the environmental impacts and risks related to oil and gas exploration and production. Evaluate strategies for improving environmental protection, safety, and sustainability in the oil and gas sector. Apply relevant concepts to analyze real-world issues related to offshore energy resource development.
