Coastal Tourism and the Blue Economy

This course examines the relationship between coastal tourism and the Blue Economy, highlighting the role of tourism as an important sector for sustainable economic development in coastal and marine regions. It covers the principles of sustainable coastal and marine tourism, tourism planning and destination management, environmental protection, community engagement, and the socioeconomic benefits and impacts of tourism. The course also addresses current challenges such as coastal degradation, climate change, pollution, over-tourism, and the need for effective governance and sustainable management practices. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the role and importance of coastal and marine tourism within the Blue Economy. Identify the economic, social, and environmental impacts of coastal tourism. Apply principles of sustainable tourism planning and management. Analyze challenges affecting coastal and marine tourism destinations. Evaluate strategies for minimizing environmental impacts and promoting sustainable tourism practices. Assess the role of local communities and stakeholders in coastal tourism development. Develop sustainable and innovative tourism approaches that support the Blue Economy and coastal conservation.
