Description

This course introduces the concept of the Blue Economy and the sustainable use of marine bioresources, with particular emphasis on fisheries and aquaculture. It covers the importance of marine living resources for food security, economic development, employment, and coastal community livelihoods. The course also examines sustainable fisheries management, responsible aquaculture practices, conservation of marine biodiversity, environmental impacts, and governance approaches for ensuring the long-term sustainability of marine bioresources. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Explain the importance of fisheries and aquaculture within the Sustainable Blue Economy. Identify major marine bioresources and their economic and ecological value. Analyze the principles of sustainable fisheries management and responsible aquaculture. Assess environmental and socioeconomic challenges affecting fisheries and aquaculture. Evaluate strategies for the conservation and sustainable utilization of marine living resources. Apply appropriate approaches to support sustainable decision-making in fisheries, aquaculture, and marine bioresource management.
