Description

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of materials science and engineering, focusing on the relationship between the structure of materials and their properties, processing, and performance. Topics include atomic structure and bonding, crystal structures, imperfections in solids, diffusion, mechanical properties of metals, failure mechanisms (fracture, fatigue, creep), phase diagrams, heat treatment, and the properties of metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites. The course emphasizes selecting materials for engineering applications based on performance, cost, and sustainability considerations.

Program

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Energy and Power Engineering) (160 Cr.)

Objectives

  • To give the student a sound background in the science of engineering materials
