Description
The course provides students with the basic features of medical bacteriology and mycology. It also familiarizes students with the common bacterial and fungal infections and diseases of medical importance, their microbial causes, as well as laboratory diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of such diseases.

a.1. Identify the different members of bacteria, their characteristics, virulence factors, pathogenesis mechanisms,
caused diseases, laboratory diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
a.2. Describe different members of fungi, their characteristics, their virulence factors, caused diseases, laboratory
diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
a.3. Identify bacteriological terms and recall the morphology and mode of transmission of each bacteria
b. Intellectual Skills
b1. Differentiate symptoms associated with major bacterial infections and be able to apply the required
measurements for prevention and control of bacterial diseases and treatment.
b.2. Illustrate the mechanisms of pathogenesis and immunity to bacterial diseases.
b.3. Distinguish the different fungal diseases, various laboratory diagnostic methods and variable treatments.
b.4. Select the appropriate treatment and diagnostic laboratory methods for the most medically important human
bacteria and fungi with respect to the clinical picture.

c.1. Apply the skills required for the safe handling and identification of infectious agents.
