Description
The course cover drugs used to treat different endocrinologic disorders (Diabetes, thyroid disorder, Cushing syndrome and different renal disorders and related fluid and electrolyte disturbances (acute and chronic renal failure, uremic syndrome, kidney stones,.), the drugs are discussed relevant to their possible structure – activity relationships, contraindications, prodrug and bioactivation concepts, if any, their possible metabolism and elimination

Objectives
- By the end of the course, the students should be able to:
a1- Integrate knowledge from physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology and organic chemistry for endocrine related disorders.
a2- Recognize the chemical structure, pharmacophore moieties and consequently the structure activity relationship for drugs used to modulate different hormonal systems.
a3- Explain different physicochemical properties, metabolism and drugs’ actions.
a4- Evaluate the effect of different pharmacokinetic properties on the drug effectiveness and safety in different clinical settings.
a5-Identify and analyze newly emerging therapeutics and their applications in health care systems.
Intellectual Skills
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:
b1- Predict the biological response of some drugs and medical use referring to their chemical structure.
b2- Predict the activity of compounds using pharmacophore molecular modeling techniques. b3- Decide the effect of structure modification on the physicochemical properties and biological activity of the drug.
b4- Determine the suitable route of administration of different drugs based on their structural features.
Professional and Practical skills
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:
c1- Examine a drug structure to deduce relative receptor affinity, metabolic pathways and potential side effects based on functional group properties and pharmacophore similarities.
c2- Recognize personal and professional responsibilities and communicate effectively with other members in the health care team.
c3- Practice isolation, quantification and standardization of active ingredients in bulk and different pharmaceutical dosage forms.
c4- Adopt the principles of pharmaceutical calculations and their application in analyzing various drugs.
c5- Apply structure based and ligand based in silico techniques to identify potentially active drugs.
