Objectives

  • This course aims at introducing students to ethno-archaeology and archaeological ethnographies. It will explore how they interact with archaeological interpretation and cultural heritage documentation. The first part of the course will focus on ethnoarchaeology, and how the sociocultural systems of contemporary communities have material correlation with history. These cultural remainders can be used to develop analogic inferences about their interpretation and usage of sites of ritual value and material culture. The course will then develop into discussing archaeological ethnography that shifts focus from the archaeological interpretation of sites and artefacts into creating active archaeological spaces of heritage in a modern perspective. Throughout the course there will be constant comparison between archaeology and anthropology.
