Objectives

  • This course aims at giving students a real practical museums management experience. It is composed of more practical contact hours than lectures. This course aims at getting students to undertake a full exhibition project. This includes a focus on the cultural heritage narrative and exhibition philosophy of the various objects they intend to show after doing proper research on the objects. The course encourages students to work in small groups to experience the challenges of putting an exhibition of objects in a team. The course will also encourage students to budget expenses, fundraise and apply for a grant to support their project. Then students will be required to work on the design, create the story and write the different labels of the exhibition. All this keeping in mind the multiple audiences they create the exhibition to and their accessibility. The course also aims at getting students to work on the marketing and branding strategy, work on the preservation and security of the exhibited objects. The final product of the course will be an exhibition of objects and a catalog.
