Intended Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge and Understanding 1.1 Recognize various genres of films and their scriptwriters. 1.2 Describe the various structures and techniques of screenwriting. 1.3 Distinguish feature-length screenplays according to plots and structures. 1.4 Outline and identify different character types. 1.5 Recognize the importance of visuals and description 1.6 Discuss the content and the context of various screenplays. 1.7 Rewrite dialogues using their creative thinking skills 1.8 Identify the different formats of Egyptian TV Series. 1.9 Recognize the different formats of screenplays, especially the Egyptian and the American films. 2. Intellectual Skills 2.1 Identify different dramatic genres and modern developments in the art of cinema. 2.2 Demonstrate an understanding of major theoretical, dramatic and practical concepts in screenplay writing. 2.3 Recognize the format of the screenplay 2.4 Identify the different characters types and their roles in the screenplay. 2.5 Demonstrate the ability to come up with ideas and stories that can appeal to a specific audience. Professional and Practical skills 3.1 Demonstrate their abilities to develop plots and an original story 3.2 Sketch and develop different character types. 3.3 Write a detailed description for the visual images 3.4 Demonstrate their abilities to present and research about scriptwriters 3.5 Write a screenplay format for their own original scripts. 3.6 Create a plot to a story, develop characters, and execute work in the screenwriting format. 3.7 Write a short screenplay using the structures and the techniques they learned General and Transferable skills 4.1 Apply the fundamentals of storytelling applicable to a variety of writing forms. 4.3 Analyze and edit their own work. 4.4 Demonstrate the ability to work in a team. 4.5 Explore and develop their own ideas and writing style.

Objectives

  • This course deals mainly with screenwriting format, craft, and techniques, with an emphasis on the fundamentals of storytelling. Students will learn about film screenplay structure, analyze dramatic strategies in film, create characters, analyze films, learn about and apply correct script form, and creatively engage in the various stages of original scriptwriting.
