• Identify, comprehend and assess meanings, uses and values of cultural heritage • Differentiate between, cultural heritage (tangible heritage and intangible heritage), natural heritage and history, archaeology and anthropology • Comprehend theoretical and methodological approaches to cultural heritage • Recognize conflict within the cultural heritage context • Become aware of the ethical, racial and political implications of cultural heritage • Develop a foundation of definitions, concepts, interactions and terms about cultural heritage from the different multi-disciplinary disciplines • Recognize and analyze ways stakeholders are affected by cultural heritage research • Assess and critique power inequalities and boundaries in cultural heritage management • Become familiar with national law and international legislation regarding cultural heritage • Discuss and debate the role of archaeologists, historians, antiquities inspectors and cultural heritage professionals • Develop ideas and recommendations for new and innovative ways for identifying, conserving and managing cultural heritage

Egyptian Archaeology

Objectives

  • The course aims at exploring the theoretical, epistemological, and methodological approaches to cultural heritage. The course will explore how cultural heritage is defined and discover the different themes of cultural heritage practices in terms of defining, managing, interpreting, claiming, representing, and utilizing in the multiple contexts that cultural heritage presents. Heritage consumption and heritage manipulation will also be key themes to be explored. The course also puts cultural heritage in the interdisciplinary context between history, social history, cultural anthropology, archaeology, economics, development environmental studies, philosophy, and law. Discussions over space, knowledge and identity will take place relating to the complex concept of cultural heritage
