Introduction to plane surveying: Types of survey- Field and office work- ‘Scale’ types- Distance: Tape, Electronic Distance Measurement(EDM)- EDM Theory, EDM errors, atmospheric effect, Slope reduction- Leveling: definition, differential leveling and field methods, leveling errors, laser leveling- Topography and earth work, computing areas of cross sections, and compute volume of filling or dredging works- Angle measurements: Theodolites, Total station Instruments, Measuring horizontal and vertical angles, mean angle error- Surveying error and adjustment, random errors, standard error- Directions: Meridians Azimuths, Bearing; computation, declination computations- Traverse: Angle closure and balancing, latitudes and Departures, Traverse, triangulation, trilateration.
