On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: • Explain the distinction between Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. • Demonstrate a critical understanding of, and evaluate, Statement of Financial Position and income statements • Interpret and report about the financial data commonly provided by accountants to managers • Apply and critically evaluate the techniques of investment appraisal. • Use marginal costing & breakeven analysis to evaluate and solve of a range of realistic problems • Demonstrate an understanding of budgeting practice, by preparing & interpreting cash budgets as part of budgetary control.

Objectives

  • This module aims to provide future managers with a level of practical understanding that is genuinely useful in the workplace by covering a range of key Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Finance areas. The module covers analysis and interpretation of financial statements, cost classification and behaviour in short-term decision making and costing systems as well as the principles of budgeting and budgetary control.
