Description

The course concentrates on developing students career-specific skills with reference to a variety of text types related to hotels/tourism. It also aims at developing students' writing abilities as well as providing them with a comprehensive knowledge of the typical and appropriate styles of polite language usage used in hospitality services. This course introduces students to everyday situations in the Hotels and Tourism industry in which they interact with clients and customers with a high degree of fluency. It improves students' abilities to listen and understand longer conversations and talks. It also develops their reading skills with reference to texts related to the hotels and tourism industry. The course also addresses students' problems in grammar and structure as a revision to what has been previously done. It also introduces careers in the tourism and hospitality industry and hotel facilities. It teaches students the context of writing formal assignments and how to develop paragraphs. It familiarizes students to write workshops.

Objectives

  • Deal with enquiries orally and in writing. Describe rooms and hotels for leaflets and brochures orally and in writing. Take and leave messages on the phone Give opinions, make requests and deal with complaints politely. Read longer texts related to hotels and tourism for finding details, scanning for information and making inferences. Take down notes from a spoken source. Reply in writing to letters of reservations and requests. Write letters and e-mails of apology. Write a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and an accompanying cover letter. Write short educational reports about different countries and tourist destinations. Write a well organized essay.
