By the end of this course, students should be able to: • Interpret simultaneously with good, natural voice quality. • Overcome "mike fright'". • Segment input into thought units. • Avoid long pauses, stammering and stuttering. • Use adjustment strategies such as addition, inference, omission, and self-correction.

Objectives

  • This course aims to acquaint students with the practical skills of simultaneous interpreting from Arabic into English and vice versa. Students will receive intensive training in the skills involved in simultaneous interpreting, inter alia, speech perception, mnemonics, speech production, coping with different accents and making inferences when unsure. The training methodology involves a progressive and reasoned gradation in the difficulty and content of the audio text.
