- Identify poems from the sixteenth through the nineteenth centuries. - Interpret poetic imagery, figurative language, and variations of tone. - Understand specific forms of short poetry, such as heroic couplets, stanzas, sestinas, sonnets, ballads, odes, and epics. - Apply critical and analytical thinking to verses, which stimulate the student’s communication skills and develop strategies of objective analysis applied on different verses. - Construct well written poems appreciation essays. - Evaluate values, human behavior and cultural diversity through different verse. - Explain open poetic forms and the resistance to tradition. Appraise poetry.
