Description

To describe the aspects of literary renewal in poetry and prose by their genres in the modern era. To list the most important figures of modern literary revival, including poets and writers of this era. To recognize the newly introduced literary genres in Arabic literature from the West, such as the essay, short story, story, and play. To familiarize the student with the artistic form of free verse poetry and the issue of getting rid of compulsory rhyme. To understand the ability of free verse poetry to easily absorb the poet's thoughts, feelings, and express their issues and problems. To mention the factors that contributed to the modern literary revival. To understand the contemporary environment of the incoming literary genres. To understand the artistic forms of each literary genre and to describe the aspects of literary renewal in poetry and prose in the modern era. To understand the perspective of playwrights and their tendency to use a third language for dialogue. To understand the foundations of writing articles, their mechanisms, and their different templates. To analyze literary and prose texts, critique them, and identify their strengths and weaknesses. To compare the artistic form of free verse poetry with the artistic form of old poetry. To classify free verse poets according to their affiliations. To compare between different theatrical schools. To recognize the inability of the so-called third language in employing theatrical dialogue. To discuss the urgent issues related to the Arab writers' ideas and reformulate reality according to their perspectives. To analyze creative texts based on what was learned about the characteristics of poetry and prose in the modern era. To prepare literary research without errors related to the concepts studied. To write a report on one of the course's terms. To recite poetic or prose texts, achieving the standards of correct Arabic pronunciation. To develop the ability to research in libraries through the vocabulary assigned to the course. To present what has been assigned in front of peers and engage in scientific dialogue and discussion with them. To develop general taste and refined literary sense by employing what has been learned from literary masterpieces.

Objectives

  • By the end of this course, the student should be familiar with the state of Arabic literature, starting from the modern Renaissance with its various influences, and leading up to and at the beginning of the Renaissance. The course will cover the most important cultural, literary, and artistic movements, as well as their forms and models, and the most prominent figures in poetry and prose. Additionally, the course will provide an applied study of the most important poetic and prose models, including essays, short stories, novels, and plays.
