Description

The main objective of the course is to enable students to use biostatistical concepts and reasoning to analyze data they work on. It also aims to enhancing the ability of students to understand biological, fisheries and based research emphasizing the research problem they deal with.

  • A. Knowledge and UnderstandingrnAt the end of the course, students should be able to :rn1. Be acquainted with basic statistical methods used in fisheries.rn2. Recognize how to collect data and design sampling processes properly and precisely.rn3. Use the applied statistics in research of fish biological aspects in relation to the surrounding ecological factors.rn4. Apply the basic knowledge of scientific writing, research ethics, human rights and use of information technology. B. Intellectual SkillsrnThe course provides students with:rn1. Understand the basic concepts of data mining of scientific and grey literature.rn2. Explore data deficiencies and uncertainty.rn3. Understand how to describe a scientific result.rn4. Assess data deficiencies and uncertainty.rn5. Know and apply the FAIR principles: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reliable. C. Professional and Practical skillsrnAt the end of the course, students should be able to :rn1. Write a research proposal for a project according to set criteria.rn2. Test research hypothesis and investigate distribution and variability of data.rn3. Perform statistical analysis using relevant software programs.rn4. Apply recent methods, tools and approaches to determine and investigate problems in fisheries-related sciences. D.
