The course treats fundamental ideas in discrete structures and serves as a foundation for subsequent courses in Mathematics and Computer Science. The purpose of this course is to provide a deep understanding of using discrete structures that are backbones of computer science. It provides an introduction to techniques of mathematical reasoning with examples derived from computer science. Among the topics of interest are logic, proofs, counting, probability, set algebra, equivalence relations and partitions, s, mathematical induction, elementary number theory, recurrence relations, basic combinatorial methods, trees and graphs, with an emphasis on applications in computer science.
